POS-Terminals using the internet (VPN) find ever more spreading
If POS-terminals transfer their inquieries for an authorisation, traditionally the ISDN net is used. Communication over modems and communication via X.31 in the B-channel are holding themselves the balance. The tendency is clear hereby, the use of X.31 in the B-channel will increase, which will reduce the analoge modem traffic. The portion of terminals, which use the ISDN service V.110 with GSM, lies, depending upon network carrier, between 5 and 10%.
The principle draft of the Internet in the 60's was to create a net and a data protocol which guarantee that each participant is attainable at any time. Secured and authentificated data communication was however no design goal.
Thus just packing the ISO-message from a POS-terminal into the TCP/IP is not the solution.
The frontend IRENE offers secure connection via VPN and ensures to retain every content.
If your POS-terminals are connected to your authorisation system via VPN and common router, the senders IP-address of the terminal gets lost because of the NAT of the router. Any analysis in case of a disturbance in the internet, which terminal came through on a specific day to your authorisation system and which didn´t, is not possible. The frontend IRENE puts these informations into the data stream; all informations are still available.
Integrated loadbalancer on application level
A loadbalancer is integrated in IRENE, which does not only, like common router, checks the availability of your system with a ping. IRENE cyclically sends diagnostic messages and expects an answer of the listener process and the line-handler-process of your authorisation system within a given period of time; IRENE checks the availability on the application level and does not only checks the physical connection to your authorisation system.
